On Saturday Night Country Johnno welcomes BILL CHAMBERS and KASEY CHAMBERS
into the SNC studios next week 4th Dec. 2004
BILL CHAMBERS UPDATE
Bill's currently in the studio recording tracks for his next album. It'll be released
next year on Nash Chambers' label Essence/EMI in Australia and on Reckless
Records in the US. Bill's new songs are great. He's obviously writing from a
different time and place in his life.
Keep an eye out for newcomer Ben Crick. Bill produced his debut album and it's
awesome. Very Australian sounding, wonderful lyrics and Ben's voice is unique.
Ben grew up playing drums in his family band 'Hot Diggety' with Olivia Jane and
Steve Crick. Ben's album will be out on Essence/EMI.
Bill's been playing a lot of shows with The Flood over the past year and it's a
great combination. Fingers crossed they'll all get to tour the US next year. Lead
singer of The Flood, Kevin Bennett, has a sound and style evoking Pat
McLaughlin and Delbert McClinton - in other words, he's incredibly soulful, and
all together, they rock in the grooviest way! Look out for a future US release from
BILL & AUDREY
It's been a year since Bill Chambers and I have seen each other, so we're really
looking forward to playing some shows together in the US, prior to his tour with
Kasey Chambers. These dates will be his only solo shows whilst in the US and
include one Californian date then a week in Texas. See the gig guide for details.
JANUARY NEWS
Hi everyone, Audrey Auld here,
I’m writing to you from wintry California where I’m enjoying playing house
with my new husband. We’re living on the coast and sometimes I stand on the
cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and wave at Australia far across the sea.
I’ll be playing my first gig in the Marin area on Australia day!
Monday January 26th at the Olema Inn, Olema from 6pm – 9pm. It’s locals’
night every Monday night, and the food is great and reasonably priced.
A few friends will join me, and you could get to sample Vegemite for the very first time!
My husband Mez recently gave me a new Rosewood Baby Taylor guitar,
which is loud and brash and is turning out to have lots of new songs in it.
Some weeks I’m writing a song a day! I’m excited to be entering into a
publishing deal with Shock Publishing in Australia who are affiliated with
Bug Music in the U.S. Who knows, maybe they’ll pitch my songs to Faith Hill
and she’ll cut “I’d Leave Me Too”!! Tee hee!
Actually my first cut goes to Strict-LEE-Us (the Lee Family). They are a young
Australian family from Broken Hill, NSW – 4 kids and mum and dad, inspired by
the Dead Ringer Band and determined to follow in their footsteps and car-tracks.
Bill Chambers has been producing their next album and I’m really proud that
their youngest daughter, Savannah, sings a song I wrote called “Goodbye Walls”.
I wrote the song a few years ago and privately dedicated it to Willie Nelson.
It’s about life on the road and is like an answer to “Hello Walls”.
The Lee Family’s new album is great! I’m sure they’ll have it ready for the
Tamworth Country Music festival in January. If so, grab a copy. It’s full of
life and diversity. They wear their influences on their sleeves whilst creating
a fresh original sound. The kids obviously listen to contemporary pop music,
and mix those influences with their passion for Kasey Chambers/DRB style country.
Bill Chambers has re-located his Boneyard Studio, whilst still on the
Central Coast of NSW, and is very busy producing and recording. It’s a larger
facility, which means you don’t have to record vocals in the bedroom anymore!
Listen up for Ben Crick’s debut album. It’s still in early pre-production
stages, but he’s worth the wait. His songwriting is unique, as is his vocal sound.
For Australian readers, Bill is performing his solo show in the Scully Room,
Southgate, Tamworth on Wednesday night, January 21st. All Bill’s dates can be
seen on the gig guide page of www.recklessrecords.com. He’s keen to record a
new album next year too. I just know it’s going to be a beauty!
Bill returns to Nashville in the early part of the year to complete production
of Catherine Britt’s RCA album.
'SLEEPING WITH THE BLUES' NOMINATED FOR AN ARIA - BEST COUNTRY ALBUM!!!
Congratulations Billybob!
Reckless Records is the only independant label to receive a nomination
in this category this year. It's our 2nd nomination overall!
Other News
Bill Chambers has been out and about playing solo shows with his band.
He's currently in Nashville co-producing Catherine Britt's album for
RCA. His co-producer is Keith Stegall (Alan Jackson, George Jones)
and the musicians he's working with are awesome. He's finding the
whole approach to recording there very relaxed and focused on creating
the perfect conditions to capture the best performance. He's
delighted to be working with a producer who has a great understanding
and respect for traditional country music.
Whilst in Nashville Bill was invited to perform with Mary Gauthier on her
show, along with Tom Russell and Joe Ely as part of the Americana Music Assn.
week.
'Sleeping With The Blues'
has been released to the Americana stations
in the US and in the first week of release is among theTop 5 Most
Added new albums for airplay and is currently #66 on the AMA chart.
the new Bill Chambers baseball cap
It's a copy of the original cap handsewn by Fred Eaglesmith during his first visit to Australia
when he discovered his "unnatural love" for Bill. Fred embroidered
the cap with Bill's name especially for his guest appearance on
Kasey's huge show in the park during the Tamworth festival. Fred wore
the cap all evening and a woman working the hot dog stand asked him if
he was Bill Chambers. "Only tonight" was Fred's reply.
FRED EAGLESMITH
Fred Eaglesmith made his 3rd visit to Australia touring solo,
supported and backed by Bill Chambers & Audrey Auld. The legion of Aussie
Fredheads is growing and this tour was very successful. My face hurt
each night from laughing so much. We played in Queensland, Victoria
and NSW, and every show was different from the last. Singing
harmonies with Fred is the best gig in the world. He's an inspiring
musician and he encourages creativity in the people he works with.
The final night at The Basement, Sydney included Simon Johnston on
bass and BJ Barker on drums. It was awesome. The guys were thrown in
the deep end and they really rocked. Fred was very happy and Bill
called it the best gig he'd ever played! We even had some real live
Freddys in the audience! It was lots of fun touring with Fred. His
ethic is to make the 22 hours off stage as much fun as the 2 hours on
stage. He's keen to return to Australia with his band, who are as
mighty as Fred himself. It's sure to happen.:-Audrey Auld
